Most of what we shipped this summer you can't see. It lives underneath the numbers — and it's the reason the numbers are worth watching. Here's the tour.
How a card gets its price
Every EV we publish is only as good as the card values inside it, so that's where the work went.
- Real graded sales, at scale. Card values now lean on actual sold results for the same card at the same grade — not list prices, not wishful asks. Sold results are the only prices that mean anything.
- Medians that can't be hijacked. One weird sale — a lowball Best Offer, an outlier auction — used to be able to tug a card's value. The median logic now resists single-sale distortion.
- Honest values for quiet cards. Plenty of slabs rarely trade. When there's no recent sale, we interpolate from the closest evidence we have — and this summer's accuracy work made those estimates measurably tighter. They're still estimates, and they're labeled as estimates.
- Guards against bad data. New valuation checks catch a mis-priced card before it distorts a pack's EV — a sudden rank jump or a value that disagrees with its own comps gets flagged and held for review instead of published.
We read the actual slab
Every card in an Arena Club pack is a real, physical, graded slab — so we treat it like one. We now read the cert number and grader straight off the slab image, follow QR codes where they exist, and link PSA certs to PSA's own verification page. When you see a card in a pool, you can check the exact slab it refers to. Trust, but verify — we built the verify.
A pack page built around a refusal
We redesigned the pack page this summer around one sentence from our methodology: we don't tell you whether to rip.
The new layout shows you numbers that disagree on purpose — the average return, the typical pull, and how many pulls out of 100 actually beat the price — because when one rare grail carries the average, those three numbers tell very different stories, and you deserve to see all of them. Below that: where the value actually sits (lineup vs. chases vs. grails), the full sortable card pool, and Slab Safe's real trigger rate. No verdict anywhere. That's the product.
Smaller things you might have noticed
- Browse without an account. Pack detail is now visible logged out, on a delay — window-shop the math before you sign up.
- Luck, quantified. My Hits now tells you how your pulls stack up against the odds you faced.
- Talk to us from anywhere. In-house support chat and an ideas board — every note lands on the same board we triage from.
The through-line: nothing here makes a pack look better or worse. It makes the numbers harder to fool — including by us. That's the job.
